Detecting and identifying excellent quality micro-soils is our philosophy. We have not left anything to chance or intuition, the work is the result of observation and careful analysis, but it is the soil that sets the tone, the element from which everything else starts.

Precision viticulture in its purest definition

The team works with the same philosophy in its three wineries: it is necessary to know the soil in depth in order to know exactly which wines will be obtained and which plants will be best adapted to them. Precision viticulture in its purest definition.

The research starts with the scanning of the soil and the creation of conductivity maps, a parameter that speaks of the texture of the soils down to a depth of around two metres and the moisture retention of these territories. The data collected is extrapolated and translated into soil compositions from the surface to the roots of the plants.

They also make it possible to draw up a real diagram of the types that coexist in the vineyard, defining their wine-growing skills according to the plants that are in them or, in the case of new plantations, setting the guidelines for choosing, firstly, one or another rootstock (instead of merely relying on previous experience or custom) and then one or another clone of the optimum variety for that soil, if aspects such as freshness, tannins or volume in the mouth, for example, are to be enhanced.

Selection of exceptionally well equipped vineyards for viticulture

But the origin is always the soil, and the changes in conductivity also mark where the compositions of each territory are modified and where to carry out calicatas to analyse this modification and adapt the plantations to the conditions of the land. Other parameters that affect viticulture in that vineyard are also analysed, such as solar exposure or orientation.

The soil is essential, as it will define the characteristics of the wine that comes out of that vineyard, and the data is used to choose exceptionally well equipped vineyards for viticulture, where the vine develops qualitatively and from which it is possible to obtain the maximum expression from the plant.

Soil work

Soil structures are made up of 3 components which are clays, sands and silts. Each variety is better adapted to a type of soil, expressing much more the terroir in which it is sustained.  […]
